Lois Turner |
Hello, and welcome to my artspace - I hope it gives a sense that walking can be interpreted in many ways. I am interested in connecting up with anyone who is interested in ways to wander including those people in related fields such as cultural geography, anthropology, urban planning, writers, poets and performance artists who would like to share their experiences of urban and country landscapes. If you are interested in linking up with me or purchasing my work, please contact me.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work becomes a personal cartography of urban wanderings. By exploring how the environment and its rhythms affect behavior, combines everyday life with my practice.
Rhythm is found in urban life and movement. In all biological life forms, and the pulses of our bodies such as heart rate, breathing and pace of walking. The experiment into rhythm provides me with much insight into the workings of everyday life.
The work reflects my experience of rhythms produced through walking in both the urban and country contexts. My recent time as an Artist in Residence at Cleland Wildlife Park in Adelaide's beautiful Mt Lofty Ranges, allowed me to observe the effects of the wildlife in their environment, most specifically snakes.
My work is a continual experimentation into manipulating and cross referencing between different mediums. Computer technologies, painting and photography, together inform my ideas of rhythm. Ultimately, though it is the idea that determines the most appropriate medium for the message.

All my work relates to the concept of rhythm in the environment. However, these three paintings focus more on the pulses of the environment, flora and fauna that relate to those of the body rather than exploring the interaction between objects and bodily rhythms.
